From 15-17 November, the 66th ITM Colloquium 2026 will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and online under the theme: “Health in Motion: Infectious Diseases on the Move”.  The Institute of Tropical Medicine and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute co-host the event. ITM Colloquium 2026 will bring together researchers, public health professionals, policymakers, and innovators from around the world to look at how the movement of people, pathogens, vectors, environments, and policies is changing infectious disease patterns, health system resilience, and the response strategies these changes require.

The meeting includes six thematic sessions for scientific exchange, critical discussion, and collaboration on new solutions. 

Why This Matters

Africa has a high number of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. People, pathogens, and vectors now move faster across borders, cities, and ecosystems. This faster movement speeds up the spread of infectious diseases and zoonotic spillover.

This colloquium comes at an important time. African countries are strengthening collaboration to address urgent public health threats and overstretched health systems. The meeting also gives African-led solutions a platform, strengthens cross-sector partnerships, and helps build more resilient health systems.
