The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) opened formally on 8 September 2026 at UN Headquarters in New York.
Convening under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All,” the session will bring together World Leaders to revitalise global cooperation. Together, they will give a critical push to the Sustainable Development Goals and drive collective action for peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet.
Activities will peak during High-Level Week (22–28 September), with two key platforms spotlighting action and solutions: the flagship SDG Media Zone produced by the UN Department of Global Communications with dynamic interviews and panel discussions on SDG solutions and the Goals Lounge, convened by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and hosted by the UN Office for Partnerships, featuring unscripted dialogues, deep dives into vital issues and interactive experiences.
What to Expect
The 81st Session of the UN General Assembly will address pressing public health, climate, peace, security, and sustainable-development challenges. Through high-level discussions, general debates, and strategic meetings, participants will seek practical solutions, strengthen international cooperation, and advance healthier, more resilient, and equitable societies.
Proceedings from UNGA 81 will be webcast live in six official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, expanding access to audiences around the world.
