The 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa (RC76) is happening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 24 to 28 August 2026, hosted by the WHO Regional Office for Africa and the Government of Ethiopia.

The meeting will feature high-level session plenaries and a closed-door Ministerial Dialogue. Attendees will include health ministers, global health leaders, and officials from the 47 member states of the WHO Africa Region. Other attendees will include development partners, donors, and representatives from WHO headquarters, the WHO Regional Office for Africa, and WHO country offices. These attendees will discuss and approve regional health policies, strategies, and plans.

The session will also feature technical side events, exhibitions, bilateral meetings, and public engagement activities. These activities will help participants showcase innovative health solutions. They will also help participants strengthen partnerships and share knowledge and experience among countries and institutions.

Why This Matters

Africa’s health system faces significant challenges at this vital time. These challenges include widespread infectious diseases, a shortage of health workers, and structural gaps. RC76 presents a valuable opportunity to review progress on regional health priorities. It will also help countries strengthen health systems, accelerate progress toward universal health coverage, and enhance health security. In addition, RC76 will help improve emergency preparedness and response and address emerging public health challenges.
